Hydrologic Evaluation of a Landfill Slurry
Cut-Off Wall

SI
was retained to evaluate the effectiveness of a slurry cut-off wall that
was installed at the Pinellas County Sod Farm Landfill to retain on-site
contaminated groundwater originating at an ash disposal site.
SI designed an extensive monitoring well network, installed
twelve continuous water level recorders and monitored water level
fluctuations for more than two months.
At the end of the project, SI conducted a three-day stress test
by pumping surface water from a 4,500-foot long drainage canal.
After the test was concluded SI prepared a comprehensive analysis
that clearly indicated the ineffectiveness of the slurry wall and
prepared a report containing specific design recommendations to control
off-site migration of contaminated ground water.
