Calpine Operating Services Company        

Schreuder, Inc. was hired by Calpine Operating Services Company to develop a 

Water Management Plan for the Auburndale Power Plant in Polk County, FL.  Within this Plan was a request for a renewal of an annual average of 1,326,300 gallons per day (gpd) with a peak month of 1,894,700 gpd. 

 

The renewal of the WUP utilized two 16-inch Floridan wells and maintained one 6-inch Floridan well as a standby monitor well.  The water is to be utilized as makeup water for the cooling tower, evaporative cooling and wet compression, emission control, steam sales, fire protection, irrigation, and other miscellaneous water uses.

 

The APP is a zero-discharge plant.  This means that all water that is used in the plant is cleaned and reused by the plant.  Well water is not pumped into percolation ponds, injected into the ground, or dispersed into any body of water.  The only means for water to leave the plant is by evaporation (cooling towers and evaporative cooler), steam sales, and steam injected into the combustion turbine to control emissions, which goes into the atmosphere.
